Obituary of Doreen Richmond
Doreen Richmond was born August 15, 1956 in New York, NY to the late Mary and Ruden Richmond. She was one of six children. On December 24, 1991 Doreen would marry Lance Shelton at Bethel Baptist Church and they'd raise six children of their own in love and friendship. God called Doreen to her reward on December 31, 2017.
Doreen attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn, New York. She enjoyed cartoons, arts & crafts, basketball, softball and the 130 Drill Team. She loved traveling and spending time in Gadsden, South Carolina with her late father or in Richmond, Virginia with her late mom and her stepfather Samuel Fuller.
Doreen was a no nonsense person; you didnt want to mess with her! Yet she was also one of the most loving, kind, and sincere people you would ever meet. Doreen's love, kindness, and grace extended beyond her family. Doreen was well known in Wyckoff Gardens, often time speaking and giving advice to everyone she crossed paths with. She volunteered in various positions at the Colony-South Brooklyn Houses including serving food and giving out school supplies to children. Doreen's house was open to all and she loved to cook. All of her dishes were delicious especially her signature Mac & Cheese and Collard greens!
Doreen was a devoted member of the Bethel Baptist Church for many years, where she was blessed with good friends. They called her the "Trouble Maker". Doreen loved everyone and she loved to sing. One of her favorite songs is 'Order my Steps'. Doreen was a pillar of Bethel Baptist Church; supporting each and every ministry, especially the Youth Ministry. There were very few programs or events at the church that Doreen wasnt a part of in some way. Doreen was a true blessing and pillar to her church community and the South Brooklyn Community at large.
Doreen leaves to cherish her memories her husband Lance Shelton; six children, Juliette Richmond, Brian Richmond, Anthony Richmond, Brittany Dempsey (David), Robin Shelton and Preston Shelton; one grandson RJ; one sister, Margaret Abson (Glenn) of Brooklyn, New York; four brothers, Michael Richmond of sacramento, CA, Ruden Richmond Jr. of Gadsden, SC, Rev Tyrone Richmond (Gloria) of Cleveland, TN, Richard Richmond (Gwen) of Richmond, VA; her stepfather, Samuel Fuller of Richmond, VA; four adopted siblings, Optasia Fuller, Dallas Fuller, Nathan Fuller, Nakita Fuller, all of Richmond, VA; five god children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. A special thanks to Mattie Hudson, who was always there for Doreen.
Doreen was a truly bright shining star who will always remain in our hearts with loving memory.
