Obituary of Mattie Cook

 

Mattie Mae Cook,  A long time resident  of Brooklyn,  New York, died Monday the 4th of February at Interfaith Hospital. 

Born 1925 on 27th of November in Sylvania,  GA. and moved to Harlem, NY in 1948 with her husband Joshua Cook and two children Sandra and Jonnie with Joshua, Jr. on the way. In 1949 Mattie and her growing family moved to the Lower East Side, NY adding Larry, Gary and Brenda.

In 1976 Mattie moved to Brooklyn,  New York where she lived and started working at NYC Technical College until her retirement; in the Day Care Center, empowering the minds of young people. 

Mattie was a person with a loving heart. She enjoyed good food and socializing. She was an amazing story  teller. She relished in telling  her stories to her children and grandchildren. She had a wonderful smile that could light up the room. 

She is survived by three of her children: Sandra, Gary, Brenda; one daughter in law, Essie and one son-in-law William.  Mattie is also survived by six grandchildren:  Jarrett,  Sean, Sotania,  Kawane, Dorian,  and Shanna; 19 great grand children and 13 great great grandchildren.
